WE RISE FESTIVAL
We Rise presented the challenge of rebranding the conversation around mental health in otherized communities and challenging long-held stigma. During the 2 week long festival I worked in a range of roles including co-designing over 50 hours of live event programming and working closely with the Art Department to achieve atmospheres hospitable for wide ranges of audience experiences. I was also the copywriter for all public facing event flyers, website copy, and programmatic conceptual messaging shared internally. It was truly an immersive experience elevated by a stunning 30k foot warehouse of thematic interactive art installations. Below are a few of my favorite features from this festival.
KOBE BRYANT TALKS MENTAL HEALTH WITH THE KIDDOS
First of all, moment of silence for the GOAT... One of the client measurements for success during this festival was how well we engaged teens and students, especially those from underserved communities. During the two weeks the festival was active I produced student programming and coordinated field trips with more than 20 schools. Programming included poetry workshops, screen printing, and yes - special surprise visits from celebrities like Kobe Bryant, Nick Cannon and more.
"GET FREE" YOGA & MEDITATION
Yoga and meditation sessions lifted figures and voices that related to the audience we wanted to engage. Body Positive Yogi Jessamyn Stanley and world renowned Reiki Healer Millana Snow were two of the one dozen booked practitioners that affirmed We Rise as an inclusive safe space for expression and healing.
THE COOLDOWNÂ HUB
In the cool down hub guests were welcomed to refreshments from our food and drink vendors, materials for art making, comfy floor pillows, and a vibe that inspired relaxation and connection. After touring the thought provoking art gallery or attending an emotionally intriguing program, this was an ideal sanctuary to unwind in.
YG & SCOTT BUDNICK DISCUSS MENTAL HEALTH AND TRAUMA
Again, connection to our core audience -- those most likely to be excluded from wellness conversations was top of the list in designing programming. YG & Founder of ARC, Scott Budnick sat down to unpack YG's personal journey to mental health wellness.
